Canisius guard Jeremiah Williams is academically ineligible and out for the remainder of the season, the school announced just before Friday’s game against Iona.

Williams, a JUCO transfer from Vincennes University, was in his first semester at Canisius this fall. He had played in all 17 games, averaging 2.1 points per game in 11.7 minutes.

Williams’ loss leaves nine players in the rotation, with Phil Valenti, Dominique Raney, Josiah Heath and Kevin Bleeker coming off the bench.

“We expect Jeremiah to take care of his work in the classroom and we’ll welcome him back to the active roster next semester,” coach Jim Baron said in the statement.

Williams will be a senior next season. He is still allowed to practice with the team.
