Billy Baron repeats as Frist Team All-MAAC

By Nick Veronica

baronballCanisius senior guard Billy Baron is a unanimous First Team All-MAAC selection, the conference announced today.

Baron is averaging 24.4 points (third nationally) and 5.2 assists per game and was named to the team for the second year in a row. He is a strong contender for the MAAC Player of the Year, which will be announced Friday. All First Team selections are eligible for the award, but only Baron and Manhattan’s George Beamon were unanimous.

Niagara’s Antoine Mason (25.2 ppg, second nationally) was named Second Team All-MAAC. Canisius’ Zach Lewis was named to the MAAC’s All-Rookie Team.

All teams are selected by the MAAC’s 11 head coaches (…or their assistants or SIDs).

The MAAC’s Third Team was composed of Marvin Dominique (Saint Peter’s), Zaid Hearst (Quinnipiac), Anthony Myles (Rider), Michael Alvarado (Manhattan) and Rob Poole (Siena).

Monmouth and Fairfield were shut out from the awards.

Canisius opens the MAAC Tournament against No. 5 Siena at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The full bracket is in that link.

I’m heading down for the tournament this weekend. Check back for live blogs and coverage of all the action here and on Twitter.
