Canisius coaching search update: Clarke, Witherspoon, etc.

By Nick Veronica

The Canisius coaching search enters Week Two this Friday. Here’s a brief update on where things stand after talking with team sources:

— Pat Clarke, the interim coach who served under Jim Baron, had his interview this week.

— The team had a second candidate on campus this week for an interview, but I couldn’t get the name confirmed.

— Former UB coach Reggie Witherspoon has interest in the job. I’m told he spoke with athletic director Bill Maher on the phone this week but hasn’t been on campus yet.

— At least five other potential candidates landed phone calls with Maher this week. The school wants to move quickly but nothing is imminent.

— One player has left the team since Baron’s unexpected retirement. More on that here.

That’s all I have so far. As always, tips are welcome at nickveronica4 [at]
